girl in saffron

Posted in style by portia on July 2nd, 2008

Whilst clearing my shoes the other day, I realized I got stuck in a peep-toe rut. Well, I didn’t have the good fortune to inherit my mom’s toes which are placed close to one another so mine don’t look all-that-fantastic in non peep-toes. But when I started my shoe collection (to wear, duh) at 17, I started off with mostly non peep-toes. Trying them back on the other day rekindled an old love. I got reminded of this pair. I was working as a private eye then, and we were doing a case in Malaysia. We happened to have some time, so I walked into this shoe store and bam. I bought so many pairs of shoes. P.S. I love the entire exchange rate market. When it benefits me, that is.

lace in saffron and corduroy pants. My friend looked at me quizzically and said, “I realize you love large industrial zippers on your clothes”. Eh yes, I do.

Time for another flowers-and-pearls combination, say I. Somehow, with the saffron color and the bright orchids, I feel like a combination of a monk and a tourist with a vibrant lei around my neck.

liquid eyeliner more often than not, gives me the Chinese Girl look.

pearls, feathers and silver bows

Posted in style by portia on June 23rd, 2008

Do you sometimes worry that at an event– it could be a dinner or a wedding or a prom or whatsoever– somebody shows up in the exact same thing? Well, it’s happened to some of my friends who always caution me to ‘buy the most inimitable thing ever”. But just how, I wonder sometimes. I mean, with my really bad spending habits of late– blame the sales and my insatiable appetite– I stupidly realized that a few hundred a day means Idon’twanttoseethegrandtotal at the end of the month. Had to step on the brakes, literally. So to create the OnlyIWillLookLikeThat outfit on the cheap, because I couldn’t find any more excuses to buy that expensive kimono-print dress that has been haunting my dreams, I decided to add The Mad P Twist, which is known as throw a few elements together, wave your hands, chant an incantation, and voila!

Can you believe that till a few days ago, I realized I did not have a black tube dress? I have black dresses in all cuts and lengths and necklines but no tube dresses. So I got this one, because I realized it would bring pretty good mileage. Although I really suspect it’s a skirt, not a dress. Whatever works, works. And then I got the deep hot pink slingbacks with the silver bow. I realize pink kinda clashes with the turquoise, but since I’m in the spirit of anything-goes-as-long-as-I-think-it-looks-good, here’s The Outfit On The Cheap.

wound the elastic potion of the hair-tie around the pearls and safety-pinned it to my dress to create The Mad Orchid Necklace With Feathers

christmas tree syndrome– parte tres

Posted in style by portia on March 18th, 2008
Last November, I suffered from my usual bouts of Christmas Tree Syndrome. Because it was so cold, I decided to embellish the plain pullover with it. I met a friend after school, who looked utterly stunned with that weird sneaky smile saying, “Only you can pull such stunts off.” Lol, before jumping to quoting me, “You only live once.” That idiot.

the strappy ones

This is one of my favorite pairs of shoes, even if everyone calls it the S&M Shoes. They’re not high enough, for starters. I dig the metal rivets at the side, although straps are always a tad hard to remove, and therefore are not conducive for shopping sessions. However, they’re great for nice dinners and beyond.
