tight tweeds and secret needs

The less casual version of the outfit today. .

I decided to experiment with poufy top over a high-waisted skirt, even though it might be mistakenly taken for blubber in photographs. Ahh well. . and I like the effect.

g’morning

love, lurve, luv the mismatched earrings. they have black beads and tiny gold elephants on them.

where else better to take photos in than an old-fashioned, wood paneled bar. . a friend was practising singing, so I had the unopened bar for my photo fun!

I love retro shots like these. .

loose

Posted in style by portia on May 17th, 2008

Like last week, today’s sun was an utter killer. Therefore, I searched frantically for a top as loose as possible. This one’s actually used when I go swimming (nah, actually it’s floating) and jacuzzi-ing or tanning, because its knitted strap-area reminds me of the beach and the pool. Which makes it perfect for lopping over a bikini.

The pants are actually high-waisted, but the camera angle doesn’t make it seem that high. I love the slouchiness of the wide-leg.

Today, too, I experimented with thicker eyeliner.

Today I tried on a long skirt that I would typically call a milkmaid skirt. Because I’ve always thought I look like a milkmaid milking cows somewhere in Holland. I like the prints because they are nice and vibrant, and I reckon that because The Mother has truckloads of such skirts, I can have fun wearing them till I die.

aliens

Posted in style by portia on April 23rd, 2008

Marciano occupies a corner in Guess? boutiques here, and have absolutely scrumptious offerings. Literally, Marciano means alien in Spanish. Every detail in their clothes reflects something either very polished or sensual, and despite it being substantially pricier– e.g. a shirt at $200 and up, and a dress more than $300– I normally succumb to the temptation. Two of the most sensual clothing labels I can afford for now would be Bebé and Marciano. I often like to quip, they are sex. Seriously.

I love shirts alot because they can be either dressed up or down. I also love oversized men shirts because they are extremely sexy. For now, before I work proper, I choose shirts with nice details. This one has gold buttons and a satin pink sash. The materials are a combination of satin and lycra-cotton-mix, which makes it a mold-fitting dream to wear.

It’s quite a lament how few times I get to wear my clothes. Sometimes, only once, because so many others are in the queue, of which the queue has even more to be added to it in future. This juicy-looking fuchsia one, however, was worn twice. “Yeah, P, huge achievement” as my friends love to tease me. Anyhows, I’m looking forward to wearing it a third time.

pleat-y please

Had an interview today so I wore my pleated skirt, with minimal accessories.

I have been blind all my life and finding glasses is chore. This pair of eyeglasses, though, is my best investment so far. Worth every single cent and dollar, in the same price range as Versace and Prada. Check out Prodesign, a Danish brand. They’ve got pretty cool designs for the blind and the fastidious. .

¡que tengo frio!

Posted in style by portia on March 13th, 2008

It has been raining insanely. Yesterday, it rained non-stop the sky seemed to be suffering from incontinence. I slept at 6am. It was still raining. When I awoke at 1030am, it was pouring even more. I was practically freezing to death. Which is a good excuse anyhows to bundle up

I never like how people like to say I reveal flesh– trust me, there are tons of people who walk around in poor excuses of microshorts when they have thunder thighs. I don’t do that. Anyhows, it’s not my job here on this site to be extremely mean and caustic the way I normally am, albeit peppered with a dose of tongue-in-cheek.

Or is it tongue-in-cheek peppered with a few shakes of satire. Both, say I.

I’ve always loved high-waisted skirts. And so I found this pair of culottes at the jumble sale. Fifty-cents, too. My top underneath– the La Senza PJs top– was a tad too low for a rainy day, and especially unsuitable for school. So the lamé cardigan became my scarf, after which I padded it on with the jacket.

Even though I was still cold because the winds blew bitterly. A nice, refreshing change from the inhumanly humid weather here, though.
